Message from the President
Greetings,
We
sincerely welcome you to the website of the Korean Wave
Studies Association.
Hallyu is no longer a temporary cultural phenomenon; it
has become a significant cultural asset of Korea and a subject
of academic research, engaging the world across music, film,
literature, arts, and everyday culture.
Beyond
K-pop and dramas, Hallyu is expanding into a new cultural
discourse that fuses traditional and contemporary culture,
bridging regions, generations, and nations.
The
Korean Wave Studies Association seeks to reflect on Hallyu
academically, conduct systematic research, and at the same
time create practical knowledge that contributes to society
and the field.
Researchers from diverse disciplines—including cultural
content, traditional culture, philosophy, language, education,
industry, and policy—come together to engage in integrative
and future-oriented discussions surrounding Hallyu.
In
particular, our association is committed to re-examining
the value and depth of Korea’s traditional culture, the
roots of Hallyu, and to interpreting the uniqueness and
universality of Korean culture in the global era through
scholarly inquiry.
We
believe this goes beyond simply introducing culture; it
is about building knowledge and discourse that can be shared
with global citizens.
Going
forward, the Korean Wave Studies Association will continue
to serve as an open academic community, working together
with researchers, educators, creators, and policymakers
to broaden the horizons of Hallyu studies and fulfill our
social responsibility.
We
kindly ask for your continued interest, participation, and
warm guidance.
Thank you.
12th.
Dec. 2025.
Lee,
Chang Hoo
